I found this Japanese site that has the most amazing door. The door is made of many horizontal slats that meet in the middle of the doorway. Every slat has sensors on the end so it can detect someone/something ready to go through the doorway and will only open what’s required. I can see many uses for this, in a meat packing plant where you want to keep the cold air in - this will become more of an issue as energy prices continue to rise. I believe Fed Ex and UPS or trucking companies could add a scanner and a conveyer belt. This would allow them to get the height, width (from the door) and the length (from the conveyer belt) then automated software could create a packing order to fill every available inch for each load. Fed Ex could save a bundle on jetfuel on reduced flights. I can easily see a fashion show in Paris with LCD panels installed in each slat, allowing an image to be displayed. Imagine showing some classic Audrey Hepburn images to stir up feelings of class, then the picture opens up and a model walks out with an updated Audry Hepburn look.
A modified version could be adapted to be a pet door.
Go to the original site anc check out the video, it explains much more, even if it isn’t in English.

Sure, we’ve all seen odd things in the microwave, and/or put those things in the microwave ourselves, but have you thought about a light bulb in a glass of milk in the microwave? Yeah, I hadn’t thought of it either. Check out this site for pictures of the event, and be sure to check out the video at the bottom of the page.
