Laps for Charity II Pictures

Last night, I spent about five and a half hours at the Texas Motor Speedway, the local Nascar track, because they were having their fall Laps for Charity event.  This made three nights in a row of walking around and taking pics, it’s a good thing my index finger was already in shape from countless hours of mouse clicking.  I’ve just taken the pictures from the camera, did some basic color adjustments, and some level adjustments and I’m tossing them up on the server so anyone that was out there can hopefully get a pic of their car.

I just whipped up a quick gallery as soon as I got home.  I was playing around with longer shutter speeds and the lights on the midway.   I’ll go back and tidy up the gallery when I get some time, but what’s in the gallery now is straight from the camera - just resized to make viewing online much faster and easier.

Tiger Gallery

Posted on September 7th, 2008 by William.

Saturday morning, I went with a group of photographers that I met through Meetup.com and went to a big cat rescue in McKinney, Texas for a tiger photo shoot. There were four large cats and an elderly camel named Gizmo.  There was a female lion named Sugar, a Siberian female named Pookie, another female Siberian tiger, Sheeba, and a 600 pound male Siberian tiger named Rocky.

Click on Rocky to go to the gallery.

Just click on the picture of Rocky the tiger, or click HERE to go to the gallery.

This is my first time trying to make a web gallery via Photoshop, so it’s a bit basic.  I’ll keep working on it and checking out other options.  Stay tuned for better galleries.

Scarborough Renaissance Festival

Saturday morning, I went down to the Scarborough Fair in Wasahachie Texas. Mother Nature smiled upon us with a great day that started in the mid 70’s and a cloudless sky before slowly pushing the mercury up to the mid 80’s accompanied by a light breeze. This was the second time I’d been down there, so I went prepared with comfortable shoes, and my photography vest and trusty Nikon. I took over 500 pictures that I haven’t had a chance to whittle down to a reasonable amount. I’ll be working on that and adding a gallery later.

2008 Dallas Auto Show

Posted on April 2nd, 2008 by William.
Categories: Photography, Automotive.

I made it down to this year’s Dallas Auto Show on opening night with a free ticket that Walter was able to pick up at the good ol’ VW dealer.  That night I filled the memory card on the Nikon D1, as well as several shots on the Canon point and shot SD1000. The following night, I went back with empty memory cards and did my best to fill them  up again.  Now I’ve got over four gigabytes of photos to sort through, adjust as necessary and crop before creating a gallery. Keep checking for updates…

Walter had declared Saturday November 17th, 2007 as Michelle Appreciation Day. I’ve whipped up a quick gallery of some of the pictures, with more to follow.

For lunch, we all met at The Center Restaurant in Muenster TX and enjoyed some great German cuisine. After that, Al and I existed stage left as the rest went shopping - this carved out some time for us to go scope out the trail they would be hiking and so Al could put on the gorilla suit (aka pelt of a Texas Sasquach) and wait. I waited with my camera, but the shutter was too loud in the ultra quiet woods, so I waited for the Texas Sasquach to leave it’s mark before I came out with the camera.

Texas Sasquach, can you hear him now?

Arlington Camera Makes Me Happy

Posted on July 2nd, 2007 by William.

It’s a small world, I was chatting with one of the customers at work tonight and found out that he’s into photography… seems I was the last one to the photographers party.  He mentioned that Arlington Camera rents lenses!!!  This is very cool, because I’m still learning the basics and don’t have a firm enough understanding of the options to drop $600 or more on a lens - only to realize it’s not the right tool for what I’m wanting to do.

Now I can experiment with a nice telephoto when Walter takes his GTI to the track, and maybe rent a macro lens to pick up some close details of the cars in the paddock area.

I had been to Arlington Camera once, and got a wonderful deal on my Nikon case and they had the shutter release cable for my camera.  It’s not like a a chain store, this is a hole in the wall of a small shopping center and it’s filled with that same wonderful sense of adventure that only comes with years of treasures building up, like a back corner of Half Price Books, or the finds on the back shelves in Turner Hardware.  The staff at all those places are there because they love their specialty and are far more knowledgeable than the part timer at the big box stores.

I look forward to playing with my new found toy box at Arlington Camera.
