You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom

You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give toanybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.

The Evils of Flappy Paddle Shifters and Guitar Hero

Motor Trend and Porsche teamed up for a driving event to show off the new Porsche PDK, their name for a dual clutch transmission. Audi, Ferrari, Mitsubishi, Nissan GT-R, and others offer this new mechanical monsters.

Let me step back for a moment and explain that my personal transportation is a Honda S2000, a car that’s only available with a six speed manual transmission, and has three pedals - like any good car should have.  I enjoy driving, I enjoy the time and effort I’ve put into learning car control and take pride is my driving skill, and will always be open to learning a better way.  There’s a great feeling when you’re diving into a corner, the ball of your right foot on the brake pedal as you scrub off speed, using the side of your right foot to blip the throttle so the engine speed will match the car speed as the left foot is on the clutch and a shifter slides into a lower gear so you can apply power again after the apex of the corner.  Theres a skill involved. There’s pride in getting it right, and opportunity to learn in getting it wrong.

Who cares that you pressed a button on the steering wheel/guitar neck? You pressed it just like 50 million other people could.  Now, pick up a guitar and alter music like Jimi Hendrix did… that takes skill, or shift like Steve McQueen and you’ve captured coolness instead of button mashing daydreaming.

Bottom line, get off your butt and work on real skills.
